Rollerskating: A Journey

This is a snapshot of my rollerskating journey told through digital art, watercolor and animation. I discovered my love for rollerskating as an adult reconnecting me with my childhood and serving as a guiding thread through the ups and downs of life and my time on wheels. The journey takes you through my time in roller derby, the inciting incident to learn how to roller-skate. We then see my skatepark journey rekindling my love for rollerskating. Finally we have recovery and expanding into new skates and trail skating. Rollerskating is a dangerous sport even when approached with the utmost respect for safety equipment and procedures. Two of the three portions of my journey are punctuated with injury in the form of a concussion and a broken ankle.

Rollerskating means a great deal to me bringing me joy through burnout and difficult journeys in life. I found throughout my journey that even as my body and situations change, I still crave the wonder and excitement I get from learning new skills, going fast on wheels, and finding new ways to fly. I ask that as you reflect on these moments in my journey that you consider the pastimes that bring you a similar amount of joy and contemplate the role they have taken in your life.

Thank you for taking the time to witness these moments in my life. I hope you enjoy the journey!
